EUREKA premieres tonight on the SCI FI Channel and it's the latest in a line of their great original programming.

The story follows a US Marshal (Colin Ferguson) who is transporting a young run-away (Jordan Hinson) home to Los Angeles, when they are involved in a bizarre car accident and stranded in the town. Now, Eureka is not just any town, but instead is a town with a secret, and that secret is that it is populated by geniuses that have work for the NSA and NASA, amongst others. Soon after arriving Marshal Jack Carter and his daughter Zoe (his young run-away) are swept up in a time-rift mystery of cataclysmic universal proportions.

EUREKA is a show for fans of programs like PICKET FENCES or TWIN PEAKS. The series is loaded with offbeat and quirky humor that won’t necessarily appeal to everyone in the audience. On the other hand, there is enough human drama and nifty special effects to ensnare even the casual passing fan. Don’t mistake that this show is a Science Fiction program. In reality, it is more of a drama that just happens to have SCI FI in its plotline.

The cast is a well-rounded ensemble and is remarkably strong. Ferguson is most know for his work on MORE TALES OF THE CITY and THE OPPOSITE OF SEX and even though he not old enough to have a teenage daughter, he pulls off the concerned father/tough cop role very convincingly.

The supporting cast includes veteran actors Matt Frewer (DESPERATION) as the city dogcatcher who goes around accidentally tranquilizing people in his made quest to catch the local stray dog, and Joe Morton (TERMINATOR 2:JUDGEMENT DAY) as the auto mechanic with a degree in rocket science from NASA. These are just a couple of the amazing actors that make up the citizens of the town.

The production quality on the first episode alone makes one forget that they are watching a TV program. The sets, special effects and costuming are exceptional. SCI FI Channel certainly pulled out no stops for this series, and it seems like it just might have the staying power that some of its predecessors in this hybrid genre type program lacked.

Ira from Los Angeles sez....
Having watch several of the episodes I am officially hooked. Eureka is a breath of fresh air. It's light heartedness, snappy dialogue and great interaction between characters should make this show a hit. But what has really gotten my attention is the way (ala Star Trek O.S. & Next Gen)the producers hide serious story content in their whimsical scripts. Brilliant. Hopefully Sci Fi will realize what they have and leave it alone. Nothing like a little corperate tinkering to ruin a good thing.
