'JERICHO' SEASON 2 INFORMATION FINALLY REVEALED
Executive producer Carol Barbee teases about what expect from the abbreviated Season 2 of CBS' cult series
By CARL CORTEZ, Contributing Editor
Published 7/8/2007
LOCATION: CBS (the cancellation savior broadcasting system) THE SKINNY: As CBS begins to re-air the latter part of Season 1 of JERICHO this summer on Friday nights to rebuild the audience it lost and to also entice fans and newbies to tune in to an abbreviated Season 2 next season, finally some information is leaking out about what to expect. Executive producer Carol Barbee tells USA Today that the 22 episode-arc will be condensed into seven episodes. "We’ll be burning through a lot of big stories, so I think that’s going to be very satisfying to the audience," she says. "There will be an ending point. We just hope it won’t be the ending point of the series."
As you recall, JERICHO was CBS’ critically acclaimed series about a small Kansas town coming to grips with nuclear Armageddon and how being survivors means they will be the one’s to start the rebuilding process for society. Although the show had solid ratings when it made its debut, when the show went on a long hiatus, it returned and got is ass whooped by AMERICAN IDOL. The show was cancelled, but its loyal fan base bombarded the network with 40,000 pounds of nuts (in relation to a line in the series) which made them give the series a last-minute reprieve.
Currently CBS’ strategy involves re-airing episodes this summer, new online content, a Season1 DVD release on October 2 and a big push when the series returns some time during the fall or midseason. A convention by fans is also planned for September 13-16 in Oakley, Kansas.
"One fan has gone around to parking lots putting JERICHO flyer on windshields," says Kyle Atherton, 18 who runs the site www.jericholives.com out of Pennsylvania.
As for series star Skeet Ulrich, this fan passion has "rendered him speechless" and the entire cast reworked their contracts to accommodate for the limited number of episodes for the new season.
We were all just wanting to come back and tell the story," he says admitting that he’s looking forward to finishing what they started – namely the rebuilding of civilization after such a tragedy."That was quite honestly the first thing [executive producer] Jon Turteltaub and I talked about," says Ulrich when he first took the role.
Barbee also notes that Season 2 will take a look at the occupation of the new regional government of Cheyanne, which comes to stop the towns’ fight. Also a secret cabal linked to nuclear weapons will appear to continue the search for secret operative Hawkins (Lennie James).

Jericho is the greatest show i have ever watched on TV. I can't wait for the new episodes to air. It was devastating when i found out that we America wouldn't get the end of the story of Jericho. Hopefully the show has more fan support. I can't stand to see it go off the air. SO EVERYBODY "WATCH JERICHO!!!"

I love this show. Not only that, my son loves this show. It was clean, something I didn't have to watch before he did, and had a great plot line. I can't believe it was cancelled after the first season. We have been waiting patiently for the next 7 episodes to air and hopefully CBS will realize they have a show worth investing time and money into.

i definitely want the series to be given another chance to build momentum. there's so much to watch these days, but not that much worth watching. this series is worth the 40 minutes of your life every week. of course if you put a brand new show in timeslot against an established ratings juggernaut, it's not going to shine. so i've heard their moving it, and i'm glad to hear they've decided to let the fans decide!

It is very disappointing that CBS is blaming low viewership for the end of the show. This new way of doing shows by giving them long delays is the problem. They do that with Lost and it's #'s went down as well. Jericho is one of the best shows on T.V. and CBS should get their head out of their you know what and see that.

I don't know how I found the show honestly. Just looking for tv shows on the internet. I watched the pilot one evening and was hooked. I finished the whole season in 2 days.
Best show in a long long time. Battlestar Galactica quality.

I really can't believe you Americans would rather watch American Idol than Jericho... Jericho shows the power of common people -unlike people like jack bauer- when they get together to achieve a common goal... It really is a picture of today's society and the way it would react to such a disaster. Unfortunately I cannot be in the US when the second season is shown, but all you real fans of jericho should make everyone watch it and finally get the praise it really deserves...

I am mesmerized by this show; the human equation, the taboo subject of nuclear weapons being released, and the after effects. A true keeper...

When shows go on hiatus, the networks should realize they are putting shows in jepardy and take responsibility for that. The power they hold over shows is ridiculous. They move them to different nights, times, take them off, put them back on and when the audience cannot follow, then the demise of shows are blamed on poor viewership. When shows start out strong, then ratings sag after the show has been moved all over the map, I think the networks should face the music and take the blame instead of always blaming the viewers. That is so off the mark. I get so tired of that.

Someone needs to update this article... Kyle Atherton does NOT run JerichoLives.com. His name was associated with making comments regarding Jericho in the USA article, but he has nothing to do with the JerichoLives website.

If there's one show that has brought a little bit of faith back to the networks, it's Jericho. It's thought-provoking and honestly makes you dig deep to wonder if you have enough guts and stamina to fight for what you believe in. Skeet has been absolutely phenomenal, the entire cast is award-winning. There's a chemistry between each of them that jumps out at you as you watch and it's one of the leading reasons I'm so addicted. I can't even think about my future without Jericho in it and I'll continue to fight for its existence until I can't.

I absolutely love Jericho. Is the best TV show on network TV. Wish they would replay all the episodes. Especially for the new fans who have started watching. I also really want to see Jake develope a relationship with Heather and leave Emily in the past. Love Hawkins too

Like everyone else here, I'm a Jericho addict. I wish CBS would air all 22 episodes instead of the pilot and then the second half. I would have liked to see a commitment to more than just 7 episodes, but hey, I thought it was gone for good.
Instead of badgering us to get Jericho more fan support, why doesn't CBS look at the reaction it got to the cancellation, and realize that Neilsen ratings aren't necessarily an accurate reading of how many of us are watching this great show ?

Yes, great article, thank you! These 7 new episodes are NOT the end of "Jericho"-just the jumping off point for Season 3 and beyond (hopefully!). Catch up on the past episodes now, for free at the CBS.com site.
I think many people assumed "Jericho" would be dark and depressing, and it's just the opposite. It offers hope and goodness when the whole world changes. Please give it a shot and stick around to see the new episodes, you won't be sorry!

One thing you left out is there is a possibility for more episodes than the original seven ordered next season if the viewership is adequate, and also even possibly a season 3. Otherwise, very good article.
