THE SKINNY: Gary Sinise, producer and star of the successful CSI spin-off, CSI: NEW YORK took some time out of a game of football at the CBS Rose Bowl party on Saturday night to give iF MAGAZINE some insight on a few interesting changes and surprises for the next season of the successful series.
iF MAGAZINE: Any interesting plot twists with the characters this season?
GARY SINISE: Well, in the first episode there are some interesting things. We’ve got a new character coming in played by Claire Forlani. She’s doing our show, and I’m not sure for how many episodes, but she has a “thing” that will take two or three episodes at least.
iF: How has it been being on a series for three seasons?
SINISE: It’s a good solid gig, and the show is doing well. Last year the ratings were good, and this year we’re back for another season, so everyone is optimistic. We’ve got some good things coming up.
iF: How much of the series is actually filmed in New York?
SINISE: We shoot there only about two or three times a year. We just shot there for about a week. We just started Monday, and decided to shoot for about five days there. We have a pretty big scene on the Brooklyn Bridge. Or if we have to get shots of Central Park, we like to get the big things while we are there to really get a feel for the city.
iF: How fast is the pacing of filming a season for you?
SINISE: We get scripts maybe three or four days in advance. Once we start filming a season we are so busy doing one episode that we barely have time to read the next one. We bang right into the next one and just keep filming.
iF: Being a producer, how much character control do you have?
