Breaking Movie News: BRUCE WILLIS STICKS UP FOR AUTHOR JAMES FREY, TALKS DIE HARD IV AND SIN CITY 2
Willis speak up about the horrible treatment the way the MILLION LITTLE PIECES author has endured and gives ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY a piece of his mind

THE SKINNY: Not one to be shy about things that bug him, Bruce Willis was out promoting his new thriller 16 BLOCKS when the topic of DIE HARD IV came up and how the magazine Entertainment Weekly recently wrote it was one sequel they "didn’t want to see."
"Entertainment Weekly hates me," says Willis. "They've hated me since they've been a magazine. Fuck them. And you can go tell them that."
Of course, Willis would like to see DIE HARD IV happen and hints at the possibility.
"I would like to see DIE HARD IV happen," says Willis. "If it happens and they get the script right, great. I would consider it."
Then Willis shifts gears again, obviously not done with his tirade against Entertainment Weekly and other entertainment magazines as he brings up A MILLION LITTLE PIECES author James Frey and how his memoir is really a work of fiction.
"Look at what happened to James Frey in the last two weeks," says Willis. "That's a great book and so is the follow up book. And just because his publisher chose to say that these were memoirs, it took it out of being a work of fiction, a great work of fiction and very well written to this guy having to go be sucker punched on OPRAH by one of the most powerful women in television just to grind her own axe about it. 'Hey, Oprah. You had President Clinton on your show and if this prick didn't lie about a couple of things I'm going to set myself on fire right now.' James Frey is a writer, okay? He can write whatever he wants. It's fiction, and it's just hard, it's just shameful how he was treated in some of these things. It's just shameful and it's just not fair and not right, but Justin Timberlake had a really, really good response when he was asked about that because I think that he was asked to play James Frey in the making of that book and he waited and waited and listened to everyone and he said – 'Have you heard of this magazine called In Touch' magazine or US Weekly or In Style or People or any of these magazines? They lie about people and they just make up shit all week long and you have to sue them to get it changed. This is the world that we live in. That's approved and people go ‘that's okay’ and people go, 'Ooooo, someone is boning this person over here. Someone did this over here.' And they're all lies and no one is yelling at them. So let’s leave James Frey alone. How about it?' I'm pissed off today."
As for OPRAH chiding Frey on her show, after lavishing the book with praise and sticking up for the author when she didn’t know the truth, Willis does reveal he has great respect for her, but also recognizes why she brought the author back to her stage.
"I know a lot of women respect Oprah and I do too, but I just think she did it because she got her feelings hurt," says Willis. "She got her feelings hurt and she went a little deep and you know what, he didn't know what she was going to say to him. She said, 'Come on in, it'll be alright.' And then she goes, 'Bang!' I'm a fan of Oprah's. She's doing great and she does great things. I mean, that whole book club thing is a really great idea, but I think that James Frey got treated a little unfairly."
As for Willis’ other franchise – SIN CITY – he says nothing is concrete about the sequel just yet.
"Clive Owen isn’t on, but we’re talking about it," says Willis. "We’re talking about a prequel to SIN CITY."

Based on the fact that I personally know what it feels like to be attacked and embarrassed on a grand scale, I am embarrassed for James Frey. Based on the fact that I know what it feels like to be defended in such a circumstance, I am in love with Bruce for his defense methods. I hope that when MY book comes out, he will defend me! Although, I feel the guy shoulda taken in account the old saying, "Don't do the crime if ya can't do the time." I, myself, am a recovering addict, and there are a few things that I wouldn't even tell my cat! Even IF the stuff is true, I think I woulda injected "fiction" anyway, and left it at that. "Only my hairdresser knows for sure" would be my motto. "The names were changed to protect the innocent" I feel should have at least been inducted somewhere. Some things truely ARE left unsaid. Anyway, I can respect dude for trying. Just as I want to be respected for my book. The question is, what was he trying? Was this an attempt to "clear his soul"? And if so, shouldn't he have gotten some candid advise and listened to it? I'm sure he examined the ramifications of his actions. Just as Bruce did. Just as I am. If dude did it as a cry for help, then by all means, hopefully someone will step up to the plate and lead him to the right sources. NA is such a God-send. In closing, James Frey should be respected and commended for exposing "his story". After all, it takes a h--- of alot to finish a book! Much less get it as far as he has. Kudos to ya, James! As far as Bruce, well, hey, Mr. Willis, I have a book too, dude! What can I say in it so you would defend me?! How 'bout an endorcement?

Hello there...
this is Juergen from www.random-good-stuff.com and I am writing you because we got a spanking new site...
Movie Recommandation Engine:
www.criticker.com
Our Mission
Criticker aims to match you with the people who share your taste in film most exactly. By using the Taste Compatibility Index (TCI), you can identify with whom you most agree, out of thousands. It's more than just movie recommendations: you're paired with the people whose tastes are most compatible with your own, and thus get the most accurate advice possible.
We strive to make Criticker an open system. Although the calculations behind the TCI might only be interesting to a small group of geeks people, we make it available. You can see exactly why a certain user is in your top 10, or why a particular film was recommended. If you want, you can sit there with a pen and paper and do the math yourself (geek heaven!) Also, we're honest: Criticker will never push films upon you -- if the math predicts that you'll hate a new blockbuster, that's what we'll tell you!
Hope you like it...
Cheers from Berlin,
Jürgen

For all you idiots defending this guy's book, the point is not to overvome drugs and alcohol, it's to become a decent person. And forgetting the actual facts is along the lines of "Did I throw-up on that cop or spit in his face?" Or "Was in jail for 105 days or 107?" Or was I strung out on coke that time I pissed all over that girl's face or meth?" Not "Was in prison for 3 months or a holding room for 3 minutes?" Or "Was that a DUI I got or was I charged a felony count of attempted murder?" or "Did I know that girl or just read about her in the newspaper?" These are not incidents of playing loose with a bad memory, these are LIES. So get your idiotic heads out of your asses. And if it doesn't matter if things are true or not to you, then you are more full of shit than Frey.

Hey Willis, are you a fucking moron? I think Bill Clinton's lie is about the best known lie ever told in the history of civilization. This guy Frey wrote a book that he presented as THE TRUTH and it is all BULLSHIT. Now this is not about symantics or what constitutes a memoir. It is about telling someone what you wrote is true and it it being false. If I said I shot the president and it turns out I only pissed on his picture, that is A BIG DEAL.

Am I the only person in America who (as I sat reading the book) thought "hey, if he was this strung out this can not possibly be exactly what happened". I don't have millions or billions of dollars but I do have common sense. I know that sometimes I recall an event differently than someone else who experienced the exact same event......and with no drugs or alcohol in my system at all. PLEASE!!! If you went through any NON-FICTION book with a fine tooth comb like they did with this one I am sure you could find "LIES"!!!!! I agree with one of the other comments below. He over came drugs. Is that not the whole point? I have alot of respect for Oprah but feel here pride clouded her judgement. To my knowledge he did not ask her to make this part of her book club. She chooses those herself. Way to go Bruce!!! To publicly go against what is the "popular" to stand up for what is right!!! PS I agree with your comment on President Clinton and I too will set myself on fire!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Bruce completely! I have had a lot of respect for Oprah in the past, but it seemed that she was just embarassed by James Frey in feeling "duped" and chose to interrogate James Frey on national t.v. instead of her staff taking responsibility for not doing enough research into who they are promoting on her show, and what Frey's intentions were for his book.

Yea for Bruce!!!! I have been severly disapointed by Oprah!! I love James Frey..I wish he were my friend, my next door neighbor. He is a truly gifted writer. If Oprah wants to out (no pun intended) a person that has done a true dis-service she should have a certain gay singer who was treated for breast cancer.Good ole Melisa Ethridge went on and on about the horrible hell she went through during chemo. This from a person who has all the up to date treatments money can buy. I think she caused a great many people to NOT seek treatment because of her drama queen antics. My Mother has been going through chemo and radiation for lung cancer ( after being a 20+ year breast cancer survivor) and has done it with grace and faith and humor. After good ole Melisa went on and on about her sheer hell on Oprah, she said in another article that smoking pot enabled her to sail through her treatments. Make up your mind!! I am glad she is healed, but she didn't help anyone. Shame on Oprah!!!!! Wht not get good ole Melisa back on and ask her which was it?? Sheer hell, or magic pot???

Dear COlleen, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! Colleen, you sound like a truly caring person, and the world is a better place for you being in it. Just so you know, I was in Louisianna after the flooding, helping as much as I could. Some days were awfully long, and was I ever thankful for every bottle of water I drank! You needn't feel as if you have to apologize to anyone for caring about another human being's feelings! Especially to someone who stoops so low as to insult someone's hair (or lack thereof) or mustache. All said, it's a free country where we so appreciate our right to free speech,....so on that note, kudos to James Frey, Bruce Willis and Colleen, shame on you Oprah!

Dear Yours Truly in NY. Point well taken! Just to be better understood; although I do feel terribly saddened by the tragedies you mentioned, I don't feel as helpless. This is because I know I can do something to help, albeit in a small way. For each of these causes, my sons and I donated what we could to the Red Cross and other organizations. Unlike Oprah, I couldn't give millions, but I didn't sit idle either. From my little kitchen in NB, with the help of local companies, I put together a truck-load of bottled water to be transported to Camp Covington,LA., along with blankets, pillows and teddy bears. Believe me, this took some doing because many good-intentioned people wanting to help were turned back at the border. On 9/11 I was in a local shopping mall when the horror was broadcast for all to see. An electronics store had a giant screen TV set up at the front of the store. In a crowd of about forty people, we watched the second plane hit, and we stood transfixed, dazed when the towers fell. I saw only one other person besides myself crying. Others stood silent, in shock. For most, the immensity didn't hit home until the evening news came on. I wanted to get to NYC NOW!! I wanted to be there to help! But I'm a single mother and I can't just up and leave my children. Wether it be a natural disaster or an act of terrorism affecting millions, or the look of despair and defeat on one human beings face, I just feel compelled to help. I just wanted to convey how helpless I feel when there's nothing I can do at that instant.
So sorry offense was taken. Sincerely, Colleen

"The only other time I've felt so sad and helpless watching live television was on 9/11!" Wow. Starving Children in Africa, the Oklahoma City bombing, the floods in New Orleans, the recent Tsunami disaster in mid-east Asia, the genocides in Rwanda and the Sudan, the dousing of nerve gas on a Kurdish village by Saddam Hussein -- and you felt more compelled to help James Frey. Frey and Oprah are BOTH frauds. People need to stop dumbing themselves down and open their eyes to TRUTH.

Way to go Bruce Willis and Justin Timberlake!!! I too feel OUTRAGED at how Oprah ambushed author James Frey, and my respect for her has diminished greatly. The only other time I've felt so sad and helpless watching live television was on 9/11! I wanted to climb into the television, stand between James and Oprah and let her have it!
Oprah selfishly used her show to appease her own feelings of shame, saying she was disappointed and embarassed. I am an avid reader and book club fan, and I bought and read "A Million Little Pieces" after seeing it was an Oprah's Book Club selection. When the "shit hit the fan" so to speak, it didn't change a thing for me. I resent Oprah for putting words in my mouth when she said that "millions of people were decieved". I wasn't! I gleaned so much from this book, and it helped countless others, so speak for yourself Oprah! By the way, I also had two root-canals without Novacaine, so stick that...!
I e-mailed Oprah voicing my disgust, but I am not a famous person and my opinion probably went un-noticed. Therefore I am so happy to hear that my disappointment is also shared and being heard because people listen to you Bruce!!! Thank You!!!

Thank You Bruce Willis! I have been sticking up for Frey since this all happened...Pointing out the back of the book is listed as Memoir/Literature...and, I bought it in the fiction section....What Oprah did was disallow the fact that Frey DID clean up...and wasn't THAT the point of the book...??

And, not for nothing, but Bruce Willis should be more pissed off with whoever published that God-awful photo of him above instead of going fater Oprah. Then again, it wasn't the photographer who trimmed his receding hairline to a point. Who does that? It looks like a spearhead. And it's crooked! Someone needs to peel that catepillar off his top lip and fill in the spots on his shining head with it. Maybe that's where the common sense is leaking out. Word of advice Bruce, a man with no lips doesn't need a mustache.

"...it's just not fair and not right..."
No Bruce, hyping some of your crappy movies is just not fair and not right.
Oprah defended Frey on Larry King and recommended the book even AFTER finding out it was fictitious. It was only after she was lambasted in nearly ever major newspaper did she retract her recommendation and played victim. Still, I think James Frey deserves the negative publicity he has received. His book was a house of cards and The Smoking Gun sneezed on it. The only victims are the sheep that bought his book with Oprah's recommendation.
Perhaps Bruce Willis is so wrapped up in the phoney nature of Hollywood that he truly sees no wrong in James Frey's doings. Maybe he's been acting so long, that falsifying reality is now commonplace to him.

I agree with some of what Mr. Willis has to say, but I don't believe he saw the initial Oprah's Book Club show nor the promos prior to the show wherein she lauded high praise for the book. It then became a best seller. Oprah also had him on the show to discuss the book where several times she noted how some parts were "unbelievable" and she asked "is this true?" in a 'wow, this is amazing' tone.
Now, being the fanatic that I am, I will admit that I flip-flopped along with Oprah in her initial support of the value of the "story" vs the "actual truth." But if O can admit that she was wrong, so can I.
Yes, her feelings were hurt. It was evident as she teared up on the rebuttal interview. So what is Mr. Willis's point? We know the media lies, be it literary, television or internet. But if you admit truth and then are exposed for lying...then you must endure the consequences. Does he think she should have just hugged him and said, "It's okay that you and your publishers betrayed me for profit. I don't mind." Come on, Brucey...that's just stupid.
And when I find out someone has lied to me in a hurtful way, I make it my best to expose them as such...a Liar.
